On December 14th 1971 we arrived at the Winnipeg airport from Argentina, coming from very warm weather we could not imagine how cold the December weather could be... Mr. Bill Litwin, the Executive Director welcomed us very friendly, chatting in an Argentinean Yiddish on our way out the glass doors, when a freezing wind pooled us gently back as Mr. Litwin showed us to his parked car, all of a sudden I found myself sitting and not precisely in the car but on the floor, It took me some time to get used to the icy roads... the warm welcome we got from all the Peretz School staff, Mrs. Warshavsky, Mrs. Czan, Carol Horn, Mrs. Freed, Mrs. Katz, Mrs. Dana, Mrs. Wallace and from the PTA made up for my slippery first appearance. The school had rented for us an apartment at 611 Jefferson Ave. just across from the school, and the friendly Mr. Smith prepared every thing we needed for the first day or two, but the next morning we were curious to see the neighbourhood, the sun was shinning , we wrapped ourselves and the girls with the sheep coats we brought from Buenos Aires, and decided to "chap a walk"...we got as far as the synagogue, and when we wanted to walk back the wind slapping in our faces would not let us advance. The girls cried and we were quite desperate until we got back to the apartment, soon we bought appropriated winter clothes and with the time even enjoyed winter sports.
We arrived, Ilan, my husband, and our two daughters Galia aged 4 and Ariela aged 3 and a half, and myself and stayed almost 8 years teaching at the school. In 1973 Uri our son was born.
We left Winnipeg to make Aliah to Israel on July 4th 1979 taking with us lovely memories and leaving behind many good friend and students all of them we remember with love.
